2017 Maternity Favorites
I have a few more weeks in this blissful second trimester, so I wanted to share some of my maternity favorites from last pregnancy to this pregnancy before I get too uncomfortable to remember that anything was enjoyable.
Here are some things that I have really loved… (Click on the name for the link)
Yoga maternity leggings: These were actually a gift from a friend of mine but OH MY GOSH the comfort level. You don’t even know… They are so amazing. Even though they are not the cheapest thing on my favorites list, they might be the thing that gets the most use during pregnancy. Totally worth it. I probably won’t ever stop wearing them even though I am pretty sure this is my last kid. They are more comfortable than being naked, seriously!
The Perfect Cotton Dress: I used this dress for my bump pictures in my first pregnancy. It was so comfortable but also flattering from the first trimester to the last. Every time I posted a bump picture people asked me where I got the dress. I bought a medium and it worked week 8 through 37!
Peppermint & Lemon Oil for Nausea: I didn’t know anything about oils during my first pregnancy. Actually I was a complete skeptic that they were anything more than a hoax to make money. After some of my patient friends let me roll my eyes for months and months I finally started trying a few things. I won’t get into all of the details now, but the first trimester of pregnancy is really hard on me. I throw up a lot. Like all day. This time my loyal and sweet friend Jessica handed me a bottle of peppermint and lemon and said take this home and use a couple drops in your water when you feel sick. It worked so well. I barely threw up after I started using them. It’s not recommended to use them past the second trimester because peppermint can lower your milk supply but it’s totally safe before that. If you get nauseous please do yourself a favor and give it a try. I’m here if you have questions!
Baby & Me Prenatal Vitamins: I tested so many prenatal vitamins and did tons of research on the best ones. It started out as a journey to find prenatals that I didn’t throw up (like I said, my stomach was so sensitive during the first trimester). Then I got curious and wanted to know if there were prenatals that were actually healthier than others, and the reality is honestly pretty scary. Megafood Baby & Me are by far my favorite. They have everything you need in them and they are what they say they are! You can get them at Whole Foods or on Amazon. There are other great vitamins too, just make sure to do your research and find out what you are putting in your body (and your baby’s body) everyday.
TUMS & Mentos Gum: Not necessarily together… I had to eat TUMS almost every night after 20 weeks pregnant because my heartburn was so unbearable. I didn’t discover that Mentos Gum was a hit until this pregnancy. It really helps just as much as TUMS but I just can’t get away with chewing gum in the middle of the night!
Tervis Water Bottle: Water never tastes as good as it does during pregnancy. I could never seem to get enough. I loved having a tervis next to me all day and all night. This trend continued on through nursing too… the thirst is real.
Natural Calm: This might be the most important thing that I recommend during pregnancy. I’m going to try to keep from embarrassing myself but if you have struggled with going to the bathroom regularly during pregnancy this stuff is the bomb. I’m convinced that it keeps so many other things in your body regular too. It’s totally safe during pregnancy (but ask your Dr if you are concerned). You can and should drink it every single day. It is so beneficial. I have a friend that swore it kept her in better moods too.
Nike Free Flyknit: My feet were swollen after walking on them for only a few minutes. It was really hard to even find shoes that I could fit on my feet. There was something about the nike flyknits that was stretchier than the typical tennis shoe. We were flying back and forth from LA to Atlanta every couple of weeks during my entire first pregnancy so I couldn’t manage on just flip flops. Nike pretty much saved my poor feet.
Things I didn’t love that other Moms have said were favorites…
Maternity pillow – I tried 4 different ones and hated them all so much. I found that just sleeping with a pillow in between my legs worked best. I know a lot of Mom’s love these things and that’s cool… but if you try one and hate it, just know that you aren’t alone. I had friends who felt the same way!
Belly Band – I barely used this. I’m sure lots of Moms will argue with me but I just found that I wore my normal jeans and then went straight to maternity when they didn’t fit.
Ok… what are your maternity favorites that I am missing from this list?!
